I have never been on a cruise before so it was with much excitement that I made my way aboard the ship on the 7th of March .

We arrived at 4pm check in was faultless and very quick , no waiting in line , straight through customs and onto the ship . Straight to the cabin , which was an inside stateroom on deck 4 near the front of the ship . Nice comfortable furnishings and a lovely bottle of Champaine were awaiting us , but as im claustrophobic I was not really looking forward to 12 days in a room with no windows or natural light . The cabin was in fact the major disappointment of the trip as it meant that all waking hours onboard the ship had to be spent in public areas .
We explored the ship which is a beautiful one ! There were many public places all very grand and as the days went by we found all the comfortable nooks to sit in .

Dinner was the late sitting in the Britannia restaurant a very grand two storey room . Food was OK , I must admit I was expecting a little more . The staff were fantastic though and went out of there way to adapt the menu to all tastes .
The big success in the food department is Todd English ! you do have to pay to dine here , but the food was fantastic and the staff went above and beyond the call of duty . A truly amazing experience . We were so impressed we had dinner here 5 nights out of the 12 .
The buffet at the Royal court was a good alternative for lunch and dinner if you couldn't be bothered dressing up , as you could make your own dinner . Best for a quick breakfast as they would even cook you eggs fresh .

The shore excursions were great ! A really good mix of things to do in each port , that catered to all level of fitness . We paddled a Maori war canoe one day and sailed an Americas cup boat the next .
The only grip was that the ship is a large one with over 2000 people on it so days when tenders were needed to transfer people ashore it was a long wait till you could get on one if you didn't have a booked tour . Sometimes we were not able to get off till close to noon and with sailing time at 5pm that didn't leave a lot of time .
The highlight was the beautiful cruise up the Milford sound ! So stunning that all else paled into insignificance .

The formal nights were great ! It was fun to dress up and everyone on the ship looked fantastic . I can understand why the formal nights are so popular on the Cunard line ships , it was lots of fun ! The balls as well were great with the wonderful gentleman hosts there to whisk you around the dance floor , what a great service !

It was possible to find some nooks and crannies where you could just relax , our favorites were the Commodores club and the library at the bow of the ship . Great views with a lovely tranquil ambiance . Another favorite was tucked up in a window of the Queens room where I spent many hours reading and watching the dance classes .

Overall it was a pretty mixed experience . I will try cruising again , but in an outside cabin with a balcony ! The inside cabin definitely clouded the whole experience .
It is certainly a ship that caters to an older demographic and if you like to meet lots of people and are happy chatting with strangers all day then this ship is for you !

My partner and i just came back from such a disappointing time on the Queen Mary 2. Food was below par, buffet was like Coles cafeteria, very little variety and no presentation. Britannia dining was very poor and bad service. High tea sandwiches were stale and no service. Entertainment was certainly lacking, if you like playing bridge, doing jigsaw puzzles and going to the library then this is the cruise for you. For what you pay such a waste of money. From first boarding the ship we didn't get the room we paid for but an obstructed view of the lifeboats, we asked for table 6 dining but got a table of 2. Staff were rude and due to outbreak of virus we were rationed with food and portions were disgusting. Would not recommend this ship to anyone definitely stay on the other lines not cunard.

From Southampton in UK to New York, this was the best cruising experience of my four other cruises. From the excellent chauffeur pickups from airport to London hotel and from hotel to Southampton port, the very smooth boarding process, through to the final disembarkation, the whole journey was superior and luxurious. All crew, entertainers and facilities were top class all the way. Well done Cunard!

In my view being a passenger on the QM2 is absolutely magical, from the minute we boarded to the minute we disembarked (reluctantly I might add) we felt like we were special and treated as such. can't wait to board her again!
