Princess Cruises: Sun Princess

Overview

Sun Princess has always been a cruise ship industry pioneer. When she was christened, she set the bar for offering a high percentage of balcony staterooms from which to view the exotic destinations of the world. Today, Sun Princess is based in Australia year-round, sailing mainly from Sydney and Fremantle, and has been recently updated to include our most popular onboard venues, including The Sanctuary, a serene haven just for adults, and our inviting Movies Under the Stars.

Onboard Experience

Throughout your cruise, whether you love activity or crave tranquility, Princess offers everything you could need for a relaxed, rejuvenating retreat, including a wide variety of freshly prepared cuisine and innovative experiences all designed to help you escape completely.

Food & Dining

At Princess, we know you look forward to freshly prepared, delicious fare on your voyage. That is why the quality of our cuisine is so important to us. At any hour, wherever you go on your Princess ship, our chefs are busy baking, grilling and sauteing the ingredients of your next meal. Bread and pastries are baked fresh three times a day, and sauces are prepared by hand.

Variety is the spice of life, especially when it comes to dining. Whether you feel like a multi-course meal in a formal dining room or a hand-tossed pizza by the pool, Princess obliges your every mood. From elegant specialty restaurants to themed buffets on deck, the variety of venues and dining options is certain to satisfy you no matter the time of day.

Princess offers you the choice of Traditional Dining, Specialty Dining or Casual Dining.

Specialty Restaurants*

Sterling Steakhouse: The sophisticated Sterling Steakhouse features premium, cooked-to-order aged beef, along with other steakhouse favorites. Passengers even enjoy the unique option of choosing their own cut from a presentation tray, and watching as the chef cooks their selection.
* A modest cover charge will apply

Casual Fare: Freshly grilled burgers, hand-tossed pizza - a wide selection of casual options abound on each ship.

Horizon Court: Offers a wide selection of buffet meals or snacks. Floor-to-ceiling windows with stunning sea views is a backdrop for your quick breakfast or casual dinner.

Pub Lunch*: Step into the Wheelhouse Bar onboard for a taste of British tradition. You'll find a menu of favorites advertised on chalkboards and displayed on counters for an authentic pub feel including fish & chips or a hearty Ploughman's Lunch. *Locations may vary from ship to ship.

Afternoon Tea: Indulge in afternoon tea with finger sandwiches, pastries, scones, cookies, music and white-glove service.

Room Service: The complimentary room service menu includes sandwiches, salads, a selection of hot dishes and delicacies from the pastry shop; plus, coffee, iced tea and milk are available 24-hours a day!

Ultimate Balcony Dining: Dine alfresco style, with a multi-course dinner, served on your balcony by a dedicated waitstaff. Or if you prefer, a refreshing breakfast option is available.

This was the first time I had left from Barangaroo instead of Circular Quay which I thought would be a lesser experience but passing under the bridge was AMAZING I swear we must have missed the bridge by only an inch. Make sure you are on top deck for this.
Breakfast and lunch at Horizons was good, with proper cutlery and napkins constantly replaced by the attendants - which you don't see on Royal Caribbean for example, which had self-collect plastic cutlery on the Rhapsody. A little thing, but a noticeable difference.
The food at the grill poolside was also good though sometimes long queues. Food and service at dinner was excellent, the staff in my experience were largely Thai and Philippine and were very friendly and attentive. The Princess experience is a bit more refined and the staff don't break out into a version of the Macarena half way through dinner, thankfully.
The entertainment was good, we saw a dancing show and a comedian and a ventriloquist.
We had a balcony room which was clean and adequate, with a walk in shower instead of a bath. The shower and the room in general were quite small though. Your pool towels are placed in your room too so that you don't need to queue poolside to obtain them against your room key.
A great cocktail menu at all the bars at $11 each, we sampled many of the cocktails, they were all very good. Wasn't impressed with the choice of wine in the bars, but the wine in the restaurant was much much better. Shame they don't serve the good wine in the bars too.
The Sun Princess is a spacious ship without being too huge, its well designed so that you aren't walking miles to get from one venue to another which you get on larger ships. All round a good cruise and would travel on this ship and with Princess again.
Our Sun Princess. 'Home.'

Love this Ship. Been around Australia and to New Zealand in her. Let the magic continue. Balcony Cabin for us. Staff and entertainment can't be faulted. Food to die for. Friends for life with our ist sitting table companions. We love to come, "home" after a day ashore. Just unpack and forget.. Would love to do the Round the World Cruise as well.. Could quite easily take 104 days in her. Dream maker quality.

we did the NZ trip, motor broke down took until Auckland to fix, missed 2 ports. The entertainment was quite poor compared to my other cruises. The whole running of the ship was so out of wack, babies crawling on the dance floor at all hours of the night which is very dangerousfor both babies and dancers. On a brighter note the food was quite good but again kids in dining room screaming etc was not pleasant. Other crusies the children had their own dining room and also their own entertainment areas and had to be out of main areas by 8.30pm. The crew were pleasant though. Doing another cruise with P&O london in Jan 2013 for 55 nights so hope that will be much better
