Update: It’s official, cruises resume in Australia from 17 April 2022. The Australian Government announced that the national cruise ban will not be extended and will be lifted from that final date. What’s more, with a little luck, it looks like we’ll be able to step from Australian soil onto the deck of a ship by late April or early May! We would write some inspirational statements telling you how long we’ve been dreaming of this day and what it will feel like to be back on a cruise again… but honestly, we’re just TOO EXCITED we can’t find the words!

With approximately 90 countries such as the US, UK, Singapore, Japan, and most of Europe restarting their cruise operations to overwhelming success, we’re so glad to see cruises resume in Australia. The cruise industry and operators in Australia (and across the world) have been working tirelessly to create a safe and stress-free environment for locals to adventure again, and we at Cruise Guru are so pleased to see ships welcome guests once again.

Interest in a resumption of cruising in Australia is at an all-time high, and while large ships had been unable to operate out of Australia until 17 April 2022, Cruise Guru had been seeing a massive demand for international cruises in Europe, Alaska, and Asia. The human biosecurity emergency period under the Biosecurity Act 2015 ended on 17 April 2022, meaning cruise ships can now bring on guests in Australia!

During the cruise ban in Australia, 8.6 million passengers worldwide successfully sailed from more than 60 different operators, it’s clear to see that when cruises resume in Australia later next month, travellers will happily book. What’s more, with new and enhanced methods put in place across every cruise line to reduce and avoid the chance of potential spread, holidaying on the seas has never been safer. With the demand for cruising in Australia reaching a fever pitch, plus health and safety protocols being better than ever, it’s time to book your next big adventure with cruises resuming in Australia!

Good news! Cruises have resumed in Australia with the human biosecurity emergency period under the Biosecurity Act 2015 currently ending on 17 April 2022. Until that date, there have been smaller Australia-flagged ships that have been welcoming guests on brilliant local cruises, a perfect alternative for those in desperate need of a sea-faring adventure. In fact, the Northern Territory recently announced that expedition cruise ships with up to 350 passengers are now permitted to operate in the territory, more than doubling the original count of 150.

With the official date of 17 April 2022 ending the cruise ban in Australia, and cruise ships safely arriving in Sydney Harbour to welcome guests, now has never been a better time to book!
